  1. Fever- Fever is a non-specific immune response to infection.  
  2. Bacteria entering the body through a cut may cause an infection.  
  3. Upon recognition of the bacterial invasion, lymphocytes release pyrogens that signal the brain to raise body temperature.  
  4. An elevated body temperature creates an unfavorable environment for microbial growth.  
  5. A fever also enhances the normal immune response.
